Walter Hughes  1922-2020

​This is a fascinating and humanly candid story of a young man experiencing both the exhilaration of flying and the realities of combat. He takes you along with him through his experience of the war years.

For Walter the war became personal in February of 1942 when a Japanese submarine fired a shell into the Goleta, California pasture of his dairy cows. That beginning eventually lead him to the Army Air Corps, where he became a B-24 pilot based thousands of miles from home fighting a world war in the European theater.

Follow his moving and very personal story as he takes you through his training and then onto Europe where he completed 35 bombing missions over Germany. Walter discusses the traumatic impact and images that haunt him still, more than 70 years later.
